KDE 4.1 feature plan and release schedule, KDE 4.0.1 labeled

The full release plan and the characteristic plan for KDE 4.1 have been promulgated, with the official release date July 29th, 2008. In the meantime, the first bugfix release of the new KDE, KDE 4.0.1, was labelled.

KDE 4.1 release plan and schedule

After the initial annunciation to release KDE 4.1 in July this twelvemonth there is nowadays an full release plan uncommitted. Harmonising to the plan, the first of import day of the month will be the terminal of Mar: at March 31st, 2008, tree trunk will be unopen for new features. The evolution of the already supplied (but but non ready) features will still be possible, even with binary repugnance, but new features will have to hold off for KDE 4.2 later on. The first existent freezing will be at April 22nd, 2008: everything that is non fundamentally ready until then has will non be included. After that the common terpsichore of Alphas, Genus Betas and Release Nominees will get, until KDE 4.1 final will hopefully be relinquished at July 29th, 2008.

The current anticipated and aforethought features for that release are named in Techbase under Release Ends, patch the current position of these features is supervised at the
page. These lists are non final heretofore, nonetheless they do resemble the already good cognised lists winging about the blogosphere.

The leftover enquiry is that distributions will pick up this new release first: perhaps OpenSuse 11.0 will transport it as a preliminary version with final updates before long after the 11.0 release, but that was but cited with a big possibly. The former distributions that have relinquished in Fall 2008 (like Trilby that will have its 10th release at that point) will for certain let in it - or perhaps even the first bugfix version, 4.1.1. In any manner, in Fall 2008 every bigger Linux statistical distribution will most likely send KDE in a 4.1 version.
Too, since this is a big aim for the KDE 4.1 release, packages for two former “distributions” will be uncommitted: Windows and Mackintosh OS X. I’m seeming forward to fit out my windows allies with Amarok, Akonadi-kmail/kontact and Dolphinfish (to supercede Norton Commanding officer).

In the meantime, the first bugfix release for the KDE 4 serial was : KDE 4.0.1. The changelog for this version can be realised in an XML file, and the pack of introductions shows that the developers were indeed doing work rather hard. Since these are only bugfixed and are non called to brake anything or to present new features it can be expeceted that the distributions will send this update pretty before long.
